Methodology

Scorecard Methodology

Republican Idaho scorecards are built entirely from public voting data. Every score can be independently verified using the official Idaho Legislature record and the Open States API.

Data Source

All voting data is sourced from the Open States API (openstates.org), which aggregates official records from the Idaho Legislature (legislature.idaho.gov). Data updates daily during active sessions.

What We Track

  • Floor votes — every roll call vote in the Idaho Senate and House of Representatives
  • Vote position — Yes, No, or Absent/Excused for each legislator on each vote
  • Bill sponsorship — primary sponsors of introduced legislation
  • Vote totals — aggregate yes/no/absent counts per legislator across the session

What We Do NOT Do

  • We do not assign subjective “scores” or letter grades based on editorial judgment
  • We do not weight certain votes as more important than others
  • We do not rate legislators based on party loyalty or factional alignment
  • We do not use any proprietary or hidden methodology

How to Read a Scorecard

Each legislator card shows:

  • Total votes — how many roll call votes they participated in
  • Yes / No / Absent — breakdown of their vote positions
  • Bills sponsored — how many bills they were the primary sponsor of

This is raw accountability data. You decide what it means for your district.
